of the week

The Kooks were formed in Brighton in 2004 and took their name from the title of a David Bowie song on his Hunky Dory album. The band comprised lead singer and guitarist Luke Pritchard, guitarist Hugh Harris, bass player Max Raffery and drummer Paul Garred. In 2008, Rafferty left and Harris continued on bass and in 2012, Alexis Nunez replaced Garred.

Between 2005 and 2014 they charted 11 UK hit singles with Always Where I Need To Be being their most successful when it reached number three in 2008. Their debut album, Inside In/Inside Out, reached number two and spend over 18 months on the chart. The follow up, Konk, gave them their only number one album and it ‘only’ spent 23 weeks on the chart.

Luke Pritchard celebrates his 40th birthday this week so let’s enjoy their 2006, number six hit, Naive.
