For former lead singer with the prog rock band Yes, Jon Anderson is 80 this week.
His career began in the early 60s as the vocalist with a band called The Warrior, who is brother Tony was already a member of, before attempting a solo career. He was invited to join Yes in the late 60s and stayed with the until the early 80s when he left for another solo career and teamed up with Vangelis who he’d met a few years earlier when he was considered as a replacement for Yes keyboard player, Rick Wakeman.
The pair had a couple of hits, I Hear You Now and I’ll find My Way Home, they also wrote and recorded the original version of State of Independence which became a hit for Donna Summer. In 1983 he returned to Yes.
Over the last 30 years he has toured as a soloist and with various member of Yes. He is still on tour with his group called Bands of Geeks.
